A tintype is the poor mans daguerreotype. Generally speaking, you can pick up vernacular tintype portraits from the late 1800’s for $5 to $10 each on average. If you buy closeout lots of tintypes you can sometimes get them for less than a dollar each.
If the subject matter is special, sometimes a tintype will go for big bucks. Here is one example…a double exposure, ghost tintype. This rare specimen recently sold for $1025.00.

After this was sold, the owner of the first tintype put up a second (lesser in my opinion) ghost tintype to sell for $2300. (See Below)
