What would I shoot if I didn’t shoot social documentary?

Sunsets and architecture hold little fascination for me. Sure, I will shoot the oddball sunset, building or flower if it thumbs its nose at me. But for me, people are my landscape.

There are three areas that I’m in love with and would like to be able to go back in time to shoot. (The first two are still people oriented, so they may not really count.)  The first area is old time jazz musicians. The second area are the vintage ballerinas. (But one look at my portfolio and they wont let me near any ballerinas…young or old!)  The other area I would have loved to have shot was the steam train era.

There would be 2 issues with me ever being any good at train photography.

  1. Just as I don’t interview the people on the street I shoot or try to get model releases from candid shots as one poor street photog tried to do. I would not record the train info. I just like pressing the button. Recordkeeping is a drag and I won’t do it – it would take all the fun out of photography for me.
  2. Being an ADD’er, street photography fits my personality better than having to wait for hours on end for the train to arrive.
